Pivot point questions
« on: February 17, 2006, 09:55:25 AM »

As I keep modelling, I continue to run into problems =P. Please help me with the below questions:

- Whenever I duplicate an object, the pivot point of the duplicated object is always on the centre of the grid! I want the point to be at the centre of the object instead; how can I achieved that?

- I think I pressed a wrong button at some stage when I was modelling, because at the moment, whenever I try and move an object, it no longer does it smoothly. Instead, it keeps snapping to a point ahead of where I want to move it...I checked the shelf on top, but none of the snap buttons are pressed? I wonder why that is happening? If anyone know, please let me know. In the worst case scenario, is it possible to reset all of Maya's settings back to its defaults? Please tell me how to do that too.

Thanks so much smiley.

Question 1:
Select your object and go to Modify->Center Pivot

Question 2:
Sounds like you are in component mode. Press F8 or right-mouse click, hold, and choose Object mode. If that doesn't work try one or a combination of the following: Delete History, Freeze Transformations, Center Pivtot.

Hope that helps,
cheers

Question 2, it might be due to the fact that you have snapping or something like that in the tool options. Double click on the move tool and have a looksie.
