Stretch an 'elastic' sphere

Postby sunbeam99 on Wed 8. Apr 2009, 19:32

I'd like to be able stretch a sphere to move it.
Sphere starts intact then deforms to produce a tentacle/elongated droplet which then pools at its destination - a translation of maybe 3 X its diameter (pretty near) while the rest of the sphere flows after it. The overall effect is of one side of the sphere stretching to the new location and then the remainder slowly snapping across like elastic to reform. At midpoint there's going to be a 'dumbell' shape with one part sphere on one side of the trans, one on the other and between them an hourglass of stretched object joining the two halves. Clear as mud. :o
I'm a modeller and not really an animator and the advice I have received so far is to use 'nCloth with a lattice'. Has anyone any suggestions or more details on how to do this? The final result will be pretty low res and pretty short - maybe 25frames so I'm not looking for cinema quality....
Thanks
